Findley

For this post, I want to go back in time to just under a year ago.... to June 2010, when I was photographing my first wedding as a solo photographer.  Kevin, and his wife-to-be Sabrina hired me to photograph their wedding in Moncton, and I was beyond thrilled!

Fast forward to 2011, and we have something remarkable:  a bouncing baby boy named Findley. The thing is, Findley wasn't supposed to be arriving until about March 27th.... but he decided to make his appearance 7 weeks early, on February 7th. At only 33 weeks, Findley was very tiny, but he was strong and mighty, and he was home even before his original due date.  I originally had hoped to photograph him as a newborn, but of course he was just so tiny and not quite ready.

Then, at just about 3 months, Findley had his first official photo shoot. I was so excited to meet him, and I am so happy to be sharing some of my favourites from our session. I'll start off with his mom and dad from last summer's wedding:

Why, you ask? When you see Findley's room decor, you'll understand....

Yes, that's a Harley Davidson lamp. In the baby's room. I'm not sure who likes it more, Findley or his daddy though... haha!! (and yes it makes sounds like a Harley too!)

Now onto that handsome little man....

Those eyes? I could hardly believe it. They have to be some of the bluest eyes I've ever seen. And now, here are my personal favourites:

Kevin and Sabrina, thank you again for having me as your photographer!  I loved being able to capture Findley just as he is - your precious little man. I can't wait to photograph him as he grows!!

Brett

You may remember this little fella from just before Christmas - he was just a newborn then.  But when I walked into the living room to take his pictures, I could not believe how much he had grown - he didn't even look like the same child! But he is still as handsome as ever! Here are some of my favourites from our session:

Oh, those eyes!!!

And here's one of Brett with his Mama and his Daddy - they're just a little proud of him, and they should be - he's just adorable!

Last but not least, here are my absolute two faves.

If you've been on Facebook lately, you may have noticed one of these as my profile picture for my new business page. Yes, I'm back on facebook!! Here's the link:

I would love it if you came by and "liked" me.... I'll be posting links to this blog there, so you'll know right away when I have a new post (and new sneak peeks!).

Thanks again, Jamie and Christine, for allowing me to document Brett :) I can't wait until the next time!

I want to start off this post by showing you a few images of this adorable brother and sister, whose photos I took last fall.

Some of you from my hometown may already be familiar with this story, but I wanted to share it here again.

Faith and Nate are the two gorgeous children of Krista and Billy Dickson of Miramichi. Against all odds, both have been diagnosed not long after birth as having Type 1 Diabetes. The odds of having one child with this illness are not very high, let alone having two. Nate was only recently diagnosed, and requires an insulin pump in order to adequately manage his illness; and unfortunately, this is an expense the family is struggling to pay for. As you can imagine, the expenses associated with having two children requiring diabetic supplies can be quite high, not just from the pump supplies, but also from the very frequent testing, as growing children can have blood sugar levels all over the place, and the only way to know is to test frequently. When test strips cost about $1 apiece, that definitely adds up.

So Faith and Nate and their family would greatly appreciate any financial assistance you can give them. Some friends of the Dickson family have a website set up just for this. All funds contributed go directly to the Dickson family, to assist with Faith and Nate's medical expenses.  If you would like more information on them and how you can help, just click:

Thanks :-)

Shooting for myself

Posted by fifik | Labels: , , , | Posted On Friday, May 6, 2011 at 11:04 PM

When I first started getting serious about photography, the stuff I was shooting was very different than it is now. Now, of course, I tend to focus more on portraits and weddings. Back then, I did a lot of nature photography, particularly flowers.  Often times now, I find myself wishing I could get out and take some photos *just for me*. However, between work, photography sessions, and family time, there isn't often much time left to spare - and the idea gets tossed to the side, "for another day, when I'm not so busy". When does that day come? Not very often. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my clients. Every person that has allowed me to photograph them has made me feel so blessed, that they allowed me to document their lives with my lens. But, now and then, I still miss the days of just taking photos just for fun.

On Easter weekend, Emma and I were heading to her Nana and Papa's house for an Easter egg hunt and brunch, followed by some kite-flying. I brought my camera along that day, hoping to get a few shots of Emma, and some of her really awesome kites (which I did - and will definitely share soon). Once I had taken a few of those shots, I got walking the perimeter of their property, and found myself drawn to some interesting little things, things that I may not have otherwise noticed had I not been walking alone with my camera. So I took a few shots. And soon enough, I felt so content. I was experimenting, and having fun with my camera. I was shooting for myself. I can't begin to tell you how amazing it felt.

Here are some of my results from that day. Some of them, I'm sure you will look at and maybe even wonder what it is, or why I shot it from that angle? That's the idea - to look at things from a different perspective.

I hope you enjoyed looking at these as much as I did taking them! I would love to hear your feedback on them! For sure, I am going to get some printed, probably as some nice canvasses for my home. I'll be showing them off here when I do! Thanks!!

Wanda and JP

Way back last February 2010, I met a couple who, despite the fact that I had only done one wedding (and as a second shooter at that) booked me for their wedding, which is set for June 2011. I only had ONE wedding booked at that point (for June 2010), so I was pretty shocked. I remember thinking how far away their wedding seemed. Well, time sure goes by fast, because here we are, less than 2 months until their wedding day! We got together a couple of weeks ago for some fun engagement photos. It was definitely a bit chilly out, but you guys totally rocked your session. Here are some of my favourites from the session:

Wanda and JP....... it was so much fun photographing you two.... it is so obvious to me how much you are both in love with one another! I cannot wait until your wedding day!!!
